Medical Facility Construction amid Pandemic —the Institute contracted the design of the comprehensive building for emergency treatment of severe epidemic of Xiehe Hospital of the city
The covid-19 pandemic of 2020 posed great threat to people’s lives as well as social, economic development. The building was designed to address the situation.
On April 9th, the Institute’s Guizhou Branch was given the task of the design of the building. The Leadership attached great importance to the contract and mobilized backbone designers to make it an state-of-the-art project of medical facilities.
After three rounds of consultations and two meetings with the leadership of the hospital, a consensus of design was reached: a total area of 14289.66sq.m with 12248.28sq.m above the ground and 2041.38sq.m under ground. Main functions are: sub-level 2 for air defense, sub-level 1 for garages, 1st floor for Medical Imaging Department, 2st floor for 48 beds of RICU ward, 3rd floor for 40 beds of RICU ward, 4th floor for 43 beds of CCU ward, 5th floor for 43 beds of NICU ward, 6th floor for 24 beds of ICU and ICU ward, 7th floor for medical labs, 5th floor for PCR labs, 9th floor for Pathology Department, 10th floor for Surgical Department nurses and 2 operation rooms, 11th floor for operation rooms, 12th floor for offices and meeting-rooms. The number of beds is 198 in addition to 9 operation rooms, close to the demanded number of 200 beds and 8-10 operation rooms. Based on this, designers optimized plane function arrangement, making full use of space of each room on the basis of “three areas and two passages” before producing a rational plan under the circumstances of limited facilities.
For a facility of complete functions and rational structures, designers went through five rounds of consultations with the hospital personnel for revision of the plan. Presently, designers are stepping up their work for an earliest submission of the design to the Institute for review. The new hospital will pose a new barrier to diseases threatening citizens.
