Born in 1955, Chen Hewen graduated from Water ConservancyDepartmentof Dalian University of Technology with a major in port engineering. He successively held the posts ofengineer in charge and chief of design office, director of design department and deputy chief architect of theInstitute. In 1998, he was appointed chief architect of the Institute and passed the examinationof national class-I certified architect certificate. In 2000 he served as senior engineer of the Institute. Also, Chen Hewen is executive director of Hebei Provincial Civil Engineering Society, vice chairman of Hebei Provincial Architect Society, member of Hebei Provincial Construction Industry Scientific & Technological Achievement Review and AppraisalExpert Commission, member of Hebei Provincial Seismic Resistancefor Architectural Engineering Expert Commission, member of Hebei Provincial Super Building Expert Commission, member of Tangshan Municipal Expert Consultative Committeeand member of Expert Consultative Committee of Tangshan Municipal People’s Procuratorate. In 2004 he won the honorary title of National Advanced Worker in Construction Industry and 30 Years’Contribution Award to China’s Survey & Design Career in 2006.
He experienced the rehabilitationof Tangshan city after the earthquake in 1976. In the past decades, he hosted hundreds of large and medium-sized buildings design projects and won the bidding in many design contests with competitorsfrom class-A design institutes and foremost universitiesin China, which yields remarkable benefits in terms of economy, society and environment. Therefore, he has made great contributions to the constructionand development of new Tangshan.
