On 11th October, the Department of Road & Bridge won bidding for the road-rail interchange project of Gande-er Street-Shenhua Street in Wuhai City,  worthy of 2.6 million yuan.Five other tenderers were Railway Engineering Consulting Group Co. LTD and Tianjin Urban Construction Design Co., LTD, etc.

The project is located in central Wuhai area, starting from Chuanye Road and ending at Jianshe Road with a length of 1319.533m. The project passes from under Tuanjie Road, Shiji Road and 12 tounouts of Baotou-Langzhou Railway as well as the Baotou-Yinchuan Railway under plan. The current railway is close to but hard to be connected with roads on both sides, thus a barrier to inter-connectivity and bottleneck of development of the city.

The planned road will pass , starting from the 45th meter of the east side of Chuangye Road, from under Tuanjie Road, Shiji Road and 12 tounouts of Baotou-Langzhou Railway as well as the Baotou-Yinchuan Railway under plan, ending at Station Road.Among the the points, the road-rail interchange bridge is 120m long. The underground portion starts from the west side of Tuanjie Road and ends at the east side of Shiji Road, with a length of 292m.  After completion of the underground road, the portion above the ground and Shiji Road will form a flat “T” junction. Two side roads will be built on both sides, forming a flat“+” junction with the portion above ground. Two (south and north) slip roads will be built to the east side of Shiji Road, connected with the underground portion. A side road above the ground will be built outside the east approach of the road-rail interchange. A new side road connected with the bridge will be built at 30th meter east to the road-rail interchange, the side road to be connected with the above-ground portion and, with the Station Road, form a flat “+” junction. To ensure connectivity of the pedestrains’ path,non-motor vehicles and the underground portion, two new slow side roads will be built, passing over slip roads A and B while a new slow system bridge is to be constructed.

The project design was approved by the Municipal Planning Commission of Wuhai City on June 22nd and adopted by the expert assessment meeting on Aug. 15th   as well as given consent by the Party Secretary and Mayor of the city. The underground road design of the project marked a new field of related designs by the Institute, pooling valuable experience for future designs.
